PM Narendra Modi Launches ‘Drug-Free Youth–Developed India Pledge Campaign’; Hamirpur Youth Join Nationwide Initiative

Hamirpur | August 2: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, through MY Bharat, organised the ‘Drug-Free Youth–Developed India Pledge Campaign’ at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the nationwide campaign and urged young people to play an active role in building a drug-free India.

More than one crore youth from around 10,000 locations across the country joined the virtual programme, including MY Bharat and NSS volunteers, youth club members, and students from schools, colleges and universities. Following the Prime Minister’s address, participants took the Drug-Free Youth–Developed India Pledge, committing themselves to a healthy, responsible and drug-free lifestyle.

The Hamirpur programme was attended by NIT Hamirpur Director Prof. H.M. Suryavanshi, Registrar Dr. Archana Santosh Nanoti, Associate Dean (Student Welfare) Dr. Pradeep Singh, Faculty In-charge of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Dr. Sandeep Kumar, and District Youth Officer Deepmala Thakur. Speakers encouraged young people to stay away from substance abuse and spread awareness within society.

Officials informed participants that over the next 100 weeks, districts across the country will organise cultural, sports, fitness, mindfulness, awareness and community engagement activities every Sunday. Competitions such as folk singing, mime, short film and reel-making, painting, debate and slogan writing will also be held, with district winners advancing to the state level.

The campaign will further include padyatras, sports events, street plays, expert counselling sessions, village-level pledge meetings, social media awareness drives and parent sensitisation programmes. Citizens can also register their commitment through the e-Pledge available on the MY Bharat portal.

District Youth Officer Deepmala Thakur appealed to youth, volunteers, educational institutions and citizens to actively participate in the campaign, stating that “Drug-free youth are the greatest strength of a developed India.”
