Mandi, May 7:Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces on the first anniversary of “Operation Sindoor,” stating that the mission symbolised India’s strong national resolve and growing indigenous military capability.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Jairam Thakur said the operation sent a clear message to the world that “New India” would not compromise on its sovereignty. Recalling the terror attack in Pahalgam a year ago, he said the country responded decisively under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by targeting terrorism at its roots.

He claimed that Indian forces destroyed nine terrorist hideouts and neutralised more than 100 terrorists within 22 minutes through coordinated action by the Army, Navy and Air Force. He added that the operation also demonstrated the success of the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, with indigenous defence technologies and weapons playing a major role in the mission.

Jairam Thakur said the bravery and dedication of the armed forces form the foundation of the country’s security and progress. He also highlighted the role of women officers in the armed forces, saying their professionalism and leadership made the nation proud.

Separately, the Leader of Opposition also met and honoured emerging sports talents in Mandi. He congratulated Homani from Shikawari in Seraj constituency and Rekha from Kotli, Mandi, for winning silver medals at the 7th Asian Championship held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

He said the achievements of the two athletes had brought pride to Himachal Pradesh and the country and would inspire young sportspersons across the state.
