Shimla, May 03: The Office of the Chief Medical Officer, District Shimla, has issued a clarification regarding reports claiming 17 tuberculosis (TB) cases at a nursing institute in Rampur. The department confirmed that only two students have been diagnosed with active TB—one in July 2025 and another in December 2025.
Both students were provided free treatment under the National TB Elimination Programme. One student has fully recovered, while the other is undergoing treatment with satisfactory progress. They also received financial and nutritional support under government initiatives including Nikshay Poshan Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, supported by SJVN Ltd.
Health officials clarified that 16 close contacts were placed on TB Preventive Treatment (TPT) as a precautionary measure. These individuals are not TB patients, and misreporting them as cases led to the incorrect figure of 17.
The department emphasized that all protocols were followed, and necessary steps were taken to prevent any spread, reaffirming its commitment to public health and transparency.
