NIT, Hamirpur staffer gets grant of Rs 28 lakhs for research

Hamirpur, Feb 2 – The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), to the government of India has awarded a project grant of Rs. 28 lakhs to Dr. Dilshad Ahmad Khan, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT Hamirpur, for his research proposal on “Design, Fabrication, and Experimental Investigations into Extrusion Pressure Based Magnetorheological Finishing Tool.
As the project’s principal investigator, Dr. Khan will develop an indigenous setup for the nano-finishing of high-end engineering components utilized in the manufacture of metal optics, molds and dies, aerospace, defense, and bio-medical devices among others.
Dr. Khan earned his PhD from IIT Delhi in 2018 and began working as an assistant professor at NIT Hamirpur in December of the same year. He has almost ten years of metal finishing experience. For his research and innovation, he has also filed seven Indian patents.
Recently his book on Magnetic Field Assisted Finishing was published by CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group. Dr. Khan got this funding for 3 years for developing an indigenous finishing set-up and conducting further research in the field of Magnetorheological Finishing.
Director of NIT Hamirpur, Prof. H.M. Suryawanshi and the Head of the Department Dr. S.R. Chauhan congratulated him on his accomplishments and offered their best wishes for pursuing this project in order to move forward in the field of nano-finishing.
