Nanda Seeks Action After Stray Dog Attack on Toddler
Shimla, September 22: BJP state media convenor Karn Nanda has urged the state government and Shimla Municipal Corporation to formulate a concrete, time-bound policy to prevent stray dog attacks following the incident involving a two-year-old girl in Shankli.
Nanda visited IGMC and met the child’s family to enquire about her condition. According to reports, the girl was playing in her home courtyard on Sunday evening when a stray dog picked her up and dragged her about 25 metres before local residents rescued her. She sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at IGMC.
Nanda urged the government and district administration to ensure proper treatment and financial assistance to the family as per rules. He also sought an updated survey of stray dogs and immediate safety measures in areas vulnerable to attacks, particularly around schools, anganwadi centres, hospitals and densely populated localities.
He called for stronger sterilisation and anti-rabies vaccination drives, a dedicated rapid-response team and helpline for serious complaints, and improved waste management to prevent the congregation of stray dogs.
Nanda also sought a review of earlier complaints from the area and fixing of responsibility if negligence is established.
