Vendors Issued Name Plates
Mandi, December 31, 2024: After the controversy surrounding name plates in Shimla’s Sanjauli area, Mandi has implemented the initiative, with the municipal corporation issuing name plates to street vendors. This decision follows a recent meeting of the Town Vending Committee.
Municipal Commissioner H.S. Rana stated that the Town Vending Act includes a provision for name plates to ensure vendors’ identification, including details like their origin, occupation, and tenure. Out of 250 registered vendors in Mandi, over 200 have received their name plates, while the verification process for the remaining vendors is underway.
The initiative, though controversial in Shimla, where Cabinet Minister Vikramaditya Singh had to retract his statement due to public uproar, has been better received in Mandi. Vendors believe it will provide legitimacy and clarity regarding their work.
