Massive Explosion Rocks Kullu District, Himachal

Suspected Supersonic Aircraft Cause

A powerful explosion rattled the district of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh, shaking homes and prompting many people to rush outside. The explosion occurred around 2:00 PM near the district headquarters, including Bhuntar, Manali, and Kharahal areas, with its impact felt throughout the region. Residents of the valley exchanged information with each other over the phone, trying to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

Security agencies have launched efforts to determine the cause of the explosion. There is speculation that the explosion occurred due to the supersonic flight of a fighter jet. When a supersonic fighter jet accelerates through the air at the speed of sound, it creates a shockwave.

ASP Kullu, Sanjeev Chauhan, stated that the Air Force is conducting training exercises, which led to the explosion due to the flight of fighter jets.

In essence, when an object moves through the air faster than the speed of sound, it creates a shockwave, known as a sonic boom. Sonic booms generate a significant amount of sound energy. When an aircraft travels at supersonic speeds, it produces shockwaves as it moves through the air. These shockwaves are not heard until after the aircraft has passed, creating a sudden and loud noise.
