Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur Calls for CM Sukhu’s Resignation Following Electoral Defeat

2 min read

Shimla: In a press conference held in Shimla, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur criticized the current Sukhu government, stating that it has lost the mandate of the people. He highlighted the recent electoral losses, including the Rajya Sabha elections and the Lok Sabha elections, where the Congress party faced significant defeats.

Thakur pointed out that Chief Minister Sukhu lost by 2,143 votes in Nadaun, and all his ministers were defeated in their respective constituencies. He argued that this clear rejection by the electorate indicates a loss of faith in the current government. Thakur accused the Sukhu administration of being more concerned with retaining power than focusing on the state’s development.

He criticized the government for not accepting the resignations of three independent MLAs earlier, which led to additional costs for the state. According to Thakur, the delayed acceptance of these resignations resulted in an extra financial burden of 35 crores on the public due to the subsequent elections.

Thakur also mentioned rumors of the Congress high command planning to take action in response to the electoral defeat, suggesting that CM Sukhu should resign honorably before being forced to do so. He condemned the tactics used by the Sukhu government to influence the elections, including pressuring employees and making promises like the distribution of 1,500 forms to women without clarity on when the promised benefits would be delivered.

Furthermore, Thakur warned that the crisis for the Sukhu government is not over, with pending decisions such as the CPS case that could pose further challenges. He took a jibe at Sukhu, referring to him as a “flop director” who has received a fitting response from the electorate.

In conclusion, Thakur presented the electoral data for Himachal Pradesh and all parliamentary constituencies, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for their support, which he claimed significantly bolstered the BJP’s performance.
