Kangra Paintings Sold for Record 31 Crores in Mumbai Auction
1 min readDharamshala: The rich cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh has once again made its mark globally. Two Kangra paintings from the 18th century were sold for a record-breaking 31 crores in an auction held in Mumbai.
The first painting, created by the famous Kangra artist Nainsukh in 1750, was sold for 15 crores. It depicts Raja Balwant Dev hosting a musical feast. The second artwork, created by Nainsukh’s descendant around 1775, portrays Lord Krishna dancing with the gopis in the Vrindavan garden, inspired by the “Gita-Govind” and sold for 16 crores.
This sale highlights the global recognition of Kangra’s unique art style and its historical significance. The identity of the buyer, however, remains undisclosed.
