JUIT Organises Three-Day Training on Steel Structure Design for HPPWD & HPDRRP Engineers

Waknaghat, September 24, 2026: The Department of Civil Engineering,
Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat,
commenced a three-day training programme on “Design and Detailing of
Steel Frames & Trusses using STAAD.Pro as per IS 800:2007” for 22
Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers nominated from HPPWD and
HPDRRP. In his inaugural address, Dr. Tanmay Gupta, Training
Coordinator, highlighted the importance of safe, economical and
code-compliant structural design, particularly in the seismic and
challenging terrain of Himachal Pradesh. He emphasised that steel
design requires a different understanding from conventional RCC
design, with greater attention to slenderness, buckling, stability,
connections, fabrication, erection and serviceability, and that
software outputs must always be supported by sound engineering
judgement.

Prof. Ashish Kumar, HOD, Civil Engineering, JUIT, welcomed all
participants and highlighted the university’s continued technical
engagement with HPPWD. He also welcomed the expert speaker Mr. Anukool
Kumar, Assistant Manager, Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats
Pvt. Ltd. (ICT), whose industry experience will provide participants
with practical exposure to structural design and STAAD.Pro
applications. The three-day programme covers steel frame and truss
modelling, loading and analysis, IS 800:2007 Limit State design,
member optimisation, long-span trusses, RHS/SHS/CHS sections and
structural stability.

The programme further focuses on bolted and welded connections,
beam-column joints, truss connections, base plates, gusset plates and
anchor bolts, thereby covering the complete process from modelling and
analysis to design and detailing. The hands-on training is intended to
strengthen the ability of field and design engineers to identify
modelling issues, interpret structural behaviour, optimise steel
structures and make safer and more economical engineering decisions
for public infrastructure projects.
