Solan, Aug 26: JUIT marked a historic moment by celebrating the first **National Space Day** on 23rd August 2024. The event aimed to spark interest in space science and exploration among students, featuring a series of engaging and educational activities that attracted 130 students from various schools.
Participants from Delhi World Public School, Kandaghat, Elite International School, Genius Global School, Solan, Tagore Vanasthali Public School, Kasauli, GSSS Bhoj Anji Solan, Govt. Model SSS Barotiwala, GSSS Salogara, and Him Academy, Waknaghat gathered to immerse themselves in the wonders of space.
The day kicked off with an illuminating expert talk by Dr. Harish Chandra Karnatak, a distinguished space scientist from ISRO. His talk on “The Latest Advancements in Satellite Technology” and “The Future of Human Space Exploration” captivated the audience. Dr. Harish shared cutting-edge insights into recent achievements, ongoing research, and upcoming missions in the field of space science. His emphasis on the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and his inspirational stories of pioneering missions left a lasting impression on the students. The interactive Q&A session that followed saw students eagerly asking about the challenges and opportunities in space science, further deepening their curiosity.
The declamation contest, a highlight of the event, showcased participants delivering impassioned speeches on a range of space-related topics. From the search for extraterrestrial life to the ethical considerations of space colonization, the students displayed remarkable oratory skills, blending scientific knowledge with persuasive arguments and creative expression. The judges were impressed by the depth of content, delivery, and originality, awarding the top performers for their outstanding presentations.
In the poster competition, students demonstrated their artistic and scientific prowess by creating visually striking posters that depicted various aspects of space science, such as celestial phenomena, space missions, and the solar system. The posters were judged on creativity, clarity, and informational value, with the top entries being showcased in a special exhibition area. This display allowed attendees to appreciate the students’ talents and learn more about space science in an engaging way.
The model-making competition brought forth a remarkable array of detailed and imaginative models related to space exploration. Students crafted intricate models of rockets, spacecraft, and celestial bodies, showcasing their technical skills and creativity. The judges evaluated the models on accuracy, craftsmanship, and overall design, with some entries featuring moving parts and interactive elements. The competition highlighted the students’ ability to translate theoretical knowledge into tangible representations, further igniting their passion for space exploration.
The National Space Day celebration at JUIT was a resounding success, fostering a deeper understanding of space science and inspiring students to continue exploring the mysteries of the universe.
