Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur expressed gratitude to the Central Government for approving the alignment of the Jalori Jot Tunnel in Kullu district. Speaking to the media in Mandi, he credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for their support in advancing the project.
The 4.2 km long tunnel, estimated to cost ₹1,000 crore, will ensure year-round connectivity between Banjar and Anni regions, enhancing local tourism. The revised alignment avoids disruptions to Shoja village, reflecting the Centre’s responsiveness to local concerns. Thakur highlighted the BJP-led efforts that initiated the project and criticized the current state government for taking undue credit.
He also mentioned the strategic importance of the Bhubu Jot Tunnel, which has received approval from the Defence Ministry. Both tunnels are expected to significantly improve infrastructure and boost tourism in the region.
