Jairam Thakur Predicts BJP Return to Power in Himachal, Says Modi Will Become PM Again in 2029
Thakur claimed that the Congress would lose power in the state and asserted that Narendra Modi would become Prime Minister for a fourth time in 2029. He also criticised Congress leaders for allegedly dreaming of bringing down the BJP-led government at the Centre, saying that the public continued to support Modi.
Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Thakur questioned the repeated attempts to relaunch him politically and alleged that the party was trying to create an atmosphere of unrest to regain power. He also referred to elections conducted through ballot papers and claimed that Congress had failed to win any seats in those contests.
Promises to Reopen Closed Institutions
Thakur assured the gathering that if the BJP returned to power in Himachal Pradesh, all institutions closed by the Congress government would be reopened in the public interest. He also promised a detailed review of decisions taken by the present government during its five-year term.
Accusing Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of pursuing politics of vendetta, he alleged that elected public representatives were being targeted through politically motivated FIRs. He warned that the Congress government would face political consequences in the 2027 Assembly elections if it continued with such practices.
Questions Government’s Debt and Development Record
Thakur criticised the state government’s financial policies, alleging that despite borrowing heavily, it had failed to accelerate development. He questioned how the borrowed money was being utilised and contrasted the condition of roads with the Chief Minister’s use of the government helicopter.
Citing his own tenure, he claimed that development works worth approximately ₹600 crore had been undertaken in the Nalagarh constituency during his five-year term. He challenged the present government to disclose the expenditure incurred on development in the area.
Raises Questions Over Congress Guarantees
Thakur also criticised the Congress government’s implementation of its election guarantees. He alleged that the promise of providing ₹1,500 monthly assistance to 22 lakh women had been restricted to around 2.5 lakh women.
He questioned the government’s employment record, referring to its promise of providing government jobs to five lakh unemployed youth. He claimed that replies to questions raised in the Assembly had stated that information was still being collected.
He further alleged that the promise of 300 units of free electricity had not been fulfilled and that consumers were receiving substantial bills even for consumption of 125 units. He also questioned the implementation of the promise of free water.
The conference was attended by BJP district president Rattan Pal, former MLAs K.L. Thakur, Paramjeet Singh Pammi and Vinod Chandel, along with Rajesh Kashyap, Alka Bassi, Rajesh Sharma and a large number of local party workers.
