Shimla Jan 02, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Sukhu-led Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, accusing it of failing to fulfill pre-election promises, particularly the guarantee of 300 units of free electricity. Thakur questioned the government’s moral authority to continue in power and demanded its resignation to seek a fresh mandate from the public.

Addressing a press conference, Thakur highlighted the recent call by CM Sukhu urging citizens to voluntarily give up electricity subsidies. He termed it a betrayal of public trust and called the government’s move hypocritical. Thakur also criticized the imposition of new taxes on industries and domestic electricity consumers, stating that these decisions have burdened the people unnecessarily.

Thakur likened the Sukhu government’s actions to a comedy show, comparing it to the popular satire program “Ulta Pulta” by Jaspal Bhatti. He also mocked recent decisions like the controversial imposition of public toilet taxes by Shimla Municipal Corporation, stating they reflect poor governance.

Thakur concluded by asserting that the Congress government’s two-year tenure has been marked by policy failures and broken promises, urging them to resign and let the people decide their mandate again.
