Jairam Thakur Accuses Sukhu Government of Stalling Development, Rising Debt

Shillai, September 18, 2026: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur accused the Sukhu government of stalling development, alleging that corruption and the state’s debt have increased during its tenure.

Addressing a BJP representatives’ conference in the Shillai Assembly constituency, Thakur claimed that the government had failed to introduce major new development schemes and had closed around 2,500 educational and administrative institutions opened during the previous BJP government.

Thakur also criticised the government over the state’s rising debt and alleged that the government had borrowed around Rs 50,000 crore during its three-and-a-half-year tenure. He also questioned the government’s claims regarding the Kishau Multipurpose Project.

On the Hati community, Thakur reiterated his commitment to the community and said the efforts of former MLA Baldev Tomar would not go in vain.

He also paid tribute to former BJP district president and state spokesperson Vinay Gupta, who passed away recently. MLA Reena Kashyap, former MLA Baldev Tomar and other BJP leaders and workers were present at the event.
