Jairam Thakur Accuses Congress and INDIA Bloc of Opposing SIR to Protect Infiltrators
Shimla, October 29, 2026: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur accused the Congress and the INDIA bloc of opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to protect infiltrators. In a statement issued from Shimla, he said every citizen has the right to a clean and accurate voter list and that electoral rolls should be revised through constitutional procedures.
Thakur alleged that the Congress was attempting to create unrest and seize power through chaos after losing elections. He said political leaders should come to power through electoral victories rather than disruptive tactics. He also accused the Congress of spreading misinformation and rumours, adding that people would not support attempts to create disorder or damage public property.
He further criticised the opposition for allegedly promoting calls for regime change, asserting that India’s democratic institutions and people would not be swayed by such rhetoric. He expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and said the government’s public welfare initiatives had strengthened people’s trust in it.
Thakur Thanks PM Modi for Reduction in Prices of 397 Cancer Medicines
Thakur also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government for reducing the prices of 397 cancer medicines by up to 93 per cent. He said cancer treatment places a substantial financial burden on patients and their families, and the price reductions would provide relief and help patients continue their treatment.
He highlighted initiatives such as affordable medicines through Jan Aushadhi Kendras, treatment coverage under Ayushman Bharat and customs duty relief on cancer medicines. He said the Union Budget 2024 removed customs duty on three cancer medicines, while the 2025–26 Budget provided full customs duty exemption for 36 life-saving medicines.
Thakur also referred to the expansion of tertiary cancer care facilities across the country, including Himachal Pradesh, and the announcement to establish 200 day-care cancer centres in district hospitals over the next three years. He said these measures reflected the Centre’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible and affordable, particularly for economically weaker families.
