Jai Ram Thakur Questions Government’s Inaction on Thiyog Water Scam

2 min read

Shimla, January 4, 2024: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, **Jai Ram Thakur**, has raised serious questions about the Himachal Pradesh government’s handling of the water supply scam in Thiyog. He criticized the government for adopting a lenient attitude towards those involved in the scam, accusing it of delaying action and only taking steps after opposition pressure.

In a statement, Thakur highlighted that the government was unaware of the scam that had been ongoing for a year. Despite initial complaints about the water supply, the matter remained with the SDM for months without any resolution. Thakur claimed that it was only after the opposition took to the streets and local BJP leaders threatened criminal action that the government acted.

Thakur stated that merely blacklisting the companies involved in the scam would not suffice. He called for criminal charges to be filed against all those responsible. He also questioned why the government failed to take action when the tanker driver publicly exposed the scam in November, and the authorities chose to remain silent.

Thakur further detailed the irregularities in the scam, pointing out that water was being supplied to areas without roads, and payments were being made without any verification. He alleged that such blatant disregard for rules could not have occurred without political protection and demanded that those involved in this malpractice be investigated thoroughly.

Thakur called for a comprehensive inquiry into the matter and suggested that all officials associated with the scam be removed from their posts until the investigation is complete. He urged the government to take strict action to set an example and prevent further corruption.
