International Conference on AI, Science & Technology Inaugurated at APG Shimla University: Experts Emphasize Innovation with Ethics

Shimla, May 22 – A two-day International Conference on Innovation in Artificial Intelligence, Science, and Technology commenced at APG Shimla University, bringing together scholars, researchers, educators, and students from across India and abroad. The event was jointly organized by the university’s Schools of Engineering & Technology, Sciences, Computer Engineering, Allied Sciences & Healthcare, and Paramedical Sciences under the leadership of Dean Prof. Dr. Ankit Thakur, Dr. Maninder Kaur, Dr. Devika Rana, and other faculty members.

The conference was inaugurated by Assistant Commissioner Poonam Thakur from the State Taxation & Excise Department, Shimla, who served as the chief guest. Chancellor Er. Suman Vikrant was the guest of honor. The inaugural ceremony began with the traditional lamp lighting in honor of Goddess Saraswati.

In her keynote address, Poonam Thakur highlighted that Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing every sector, from education and healthcare to revenue and taxation. However, she stressed the ethical use of AI and the importance of preserving human values while adopting modern technologies.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. R. S. Chauhan emphasized that such conferences provide a platform for students to showcase talent, strengthen leadership and teamwork skills, and connect education with innovation. He cautioned against unchecked use of AI, warning that machine learning could challenge human autonomy if not guided ethically.

The first technical session witnessed multiple research paper presentations on AI applications in environment, healthcare, science, and education. Experts elaborated on the functioning of AI tools, internet structures, coding, and web hosting in simple terms, increasing participants’ understanding of modern AI technologies.

Students from the university also exhibited working and live models related to advanced computing and AI applications. Participants were awarded certificates and mementos for their contributions.

The event was graced by Registrar Prof. R. L. Sharma, Dean Academics Prof. Anand Mohan Sharma, Controller of Examinations Afzal Khan, Dean Student Welfare Dr. Neelam Ratna Sharma, and other faculty members and dignitaries.
