Inspection of Illegal Logging in Dharampur by BJP Investigation Committee
1 min readThe BJP-formed investigation committee visited Dharampur in Mandi district to inspect allegations of illegal logging in the area. The team, led by MLA Satpal Satti, included members Sukhram Chaudhary and Balbir Verma. They conducted site visits, interacted with local residents, and examined the logging sites.
During a press briefing, Satpal Satti stated that the committee was formed to investigate allegations of large-scale illegal logging in Dharampur that gained significant media attention. The committee visited Bahri village, where they found a depot with heaps of timber, including restricted species such as mango, peepal, and sheesham. However, no one could identify the owner or provide permits for the wood.
Local residents alleged that a person from Kangra operates the depot without proper authorization. Satti accused individuals of attempting to conceal evidence by burying logs using JCB machines. The committee also observed logs dumped along the Beas riverbanks, hidden in an effort to evade detection.
Satti emphasized that the standard procedures for logging, including marking, verification, and permissions from forest authorities, were not followed. The committee will submit a detailed report, including photographs, to the party for further action.
