April 9, 2025 – Himachal Pradesh: On an official visit to Uzbekistan for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Shri Anurag Singh Thakur addressed Indian-origin medical students at Samarkand State Medical University. He highlighted India’s transformation into a global hub of world-class healthcare under the 11-year leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Thakur stated that India’s healthcare budget has increased from ₹37,000 crore in 2013-14 to ₹1.37 lakh crore in 2025-26. Today, India boasts 780 medical colleges, 23 AIIMS institutions, and 1.15 lakh MBBS seats—reshaping the country’s healthcare landscape. He praised the *Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana* as the world’s largest health scheme, benefitting over 8 crore people and saving nearly ₹1.2 lakh crore in treatment costs.

He also highlighted the *Jan Aushadhi Yojana*, which ensures access to affordable medicines through 15,000+ centres across India, offering savings of 50-90% on essential drugs.

Thakur recalled India’s swift evacuation of students during the Ukraine crisis and its robust COVID-19 response—from vaccine production to public health infrastructure. He emphasized that India is committed to eliminating tuberculosis by 2025, ahead of the UN’s global target of 2030, earning international recognition for its healthcare achievements.
