IIT Mandi to Shift Campus to Palampur’s Bhagotla: 52 Hectares of Land Approved by Central Government

Palampur, February 3, 2025 – The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi will now establish its new campus in Bhagotla, Palampur. The central government has granted approval for this development. Gokul Butel, Principal Advisor to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu (Innovation, Digital Technology, and Governance), shared the news in Palampur.

The new campus will be spread over 52 hectares of land. Of this, 21 hectares have already been allocated to the Technical Education Department, while the remaining 31 hectares, currently under the Forest Department, are awaiting clearance from the central government. Butel, who is also a member of the IIT Mandi Catalyst (Startup Incubator) Board of Directors, emphasized the active efforts that led to this approval.

Palampur, already home to esteemed institutions like Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University and CSIR-Himalayan Bioresource Technology Institute, will now see the addition of IIT Mandi’s new campus. The campus will offer cutting-edge courses in areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Drone Technology, Sustainable Technology, and Management, fostering innovation and research.
