IGMC Canteen Allocation Scam: BJP’s Balvir Verma Alleges Irregularities

Shimla, Feb 12: BJP spokesperson and Chopal MLA Balvir Verma has accused IGMC Shimla of major violations in the allocation of the New OPD Block canteen, calling it a scam worth lakhs. He claimed the canteen was awarded in undue haste to a favored individual without following proper tender procedures.
Verma highlighted that the tender was issued on October 26, 2023, with a submission deadline of just three hours, violating Himachal Pradesh Financial Rules, 2009, which mandate at least two weeks for such processes. He alleged that the security deposit, meant to be submitted by the selected firm New Diamond, was instead deposited by a private individual, Sanjay Kumar from Mandi, raising serious concerns about favoritism and corruption.
He further claimed that the canteen is operating without a separate electricity or water connection, with IGMC bearing the electricity costs, violating tender conditions. Verma demanded a CM-led investigation into the matter.
