Shimla, May 9, 2025 — In observance of World Red Cross Day, the Youth Red Cross (YRC) of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), in collaboration with the Debate, Drama and Literary Society (DDLS) and the District Red Cross Society, Shimla, under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU, organized a compelling skit titled “Chase Dreams, Not Drugs”. The event formed a key component of YRC’s ongoing campaign to raise awareness about the perils of substance abuse among youth.
The programme was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Guest, Ms. Jyoti Rana, Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Shimla. Drawing from her extensive experience in public administration, Ms. Rana highlighted the alarming rise in drug consumption among young individuals and emphasized the urgent need for collective action to combat this growing menace. Representatives from the District Red Cross Society were also in attendance to reinforce the message of community responsibility in addressing substance abuse.
The skit, performed by student members of the DDLS, offered a powerful dramatization of the psychological and physical deterioration caused by drug addiction. Set within a college context, the performance poignantly illustrated the far-reaching consequences of substance abuse—not only for the individuals involved but also for their families, academic journeys, and future aspirations. Through a blend of realism and allegory, the skit delivered a resonant call to action: to chase dreams, not drugs.
The event concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks by Mr. Piyush Pandit, Student Advisor, Youth Red Cross Society. The Event was organized by Dr. Mrityunjay Kumar, Coordinator DDLS and Dr. Rohit Sharma, Coordinator, YRC, HPNLU, Shimla.
