HPNLU Hosts Mental Health Debate, Launches Samvaad Magazine

Shimla, 16.5.2025:
The Centre for Human Rights and Disability Studies (CHRDS), in collaboration with the Debate, Drama, and Literary Society (DDLS) of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla and under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice- Chancellor, HPNLU, successfully organized a Fishbowl Debate Competition on the overarching theme of Mental Health. The event aimed to foster dialogue and awareness around critical mental health issues in contemporary society.
The debate revolved around two pertinent sub-themes:
Mental Health in Education and Workplaces: Inclusion and Accommodations
Technology and Mental Health: Opportunities and Emerging Cognitive Concerns
The students participated in an intellectually enriching debate which witnessed active and insightful participation from students, who articulated diverse and thought-provoking perspectives on the evolving discourse surrounding mental well-being.
A highlight of the occasion was the formal launch of Samvaad: Where Every Mind Resonates—a mental health magazine conceptualized and published by CHRDS. The magazine serves as a platform to amplify voices advocating for mental wellness, inclusion, and awareness.
The magazine was officially unveiled by Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU, whose vision and leadership continue to be instrumental in advancing the university’s initiatives in human rights and disability studies.
Dr. Navditya Tanwar and Dr. Rohit Sharma, Assistant Professors (Law) judged the debate competition, offering critical insights and adjudications. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sachin Sharma, Director, CHRDS and the winners were announced by Ms. Aastha Mahesh Saboo, Convenor, CHRDS.
