London, October 2 – Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, who is on his way to attend the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Bridgetown, Barbados from October 5–12, visited the Indian Embassy at Aldwych, London. He was accompanied by Assembly Deputy Speaker Vinay Kumar and Assembly Secretary Yashpal Sharma.

During his meeting with India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram K. Doraiswami, Pathania highlighted the significance of sustainable tourism in the present global context. He emphasized that sustainable tourism not only supports the environment but also strengthens society and the economy, ensuring the welfare of present and future generations.

He said that European countries have set a remarkable example in developing tourism sustainably, and Himachal Pradesh too can adopt this model. Destinations like Shimla, Kangra, Kullu, and Chamba, he noted, have immense potential to be developed as sustainable tourism hubs, which would enhance the state’s economy while preserving its cultural and natural heritage.

Pathania further pointed out that colonial-era hill stations such as Shimla and Dalhousie continue to attract tourists due to their heritage structures, underscoring the need to preserve and promote such assets. Apart from tourism, several diplomatic and developmental issues were also discussed during the meeting.

Pathania will leave London for Bridgetown on October 3 to participate in the conference.
