HIMCOSTE Celebrates National Science Day at Gaiety Theatre

Shimla, February 28, 2025 – The Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology, and Environment (HIMCOSTE) celebrated National Science Day at Gaiety Theatre, Shimla to promote scientific awareness among students. The event commemorated Sir C.V. Raman’s discovery of the Raman Effect (1928), for which he received the Nobel Prize in 1930.
This year’s theme was “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Developed India.”
Scientific Model Exhibition and Awareness Programs
Chief Guest Shri Kamlesh Kumar Pant (Additional Chief Secretary, Forests) inaugurated the event and encouraged students to develop scientific thinking and innovation. He visited the science model exhibition, appreciating the efforts of young innovators.
Dr. Suresh C. Atri (Joint Member Secretary, HIMCOSTE) highlighted HIMCOST’s initiatives, including:
- State-Level Children’s Science Congress (Quiz, Math Olympiad, and Innovative Science Models)
- Science Awareness Programs in Schools & Colleges
- Development of a Science Learning & Creativity Center (CSLC) in Shoghi, featuring a planetarium and science museum for rural students.
Lecture on Green Technology
Dr. B.K. Tyagi delivered a lecture on “Nature, Sustainability, and Green Technology,” emphasizing the importance of solar, wind, and hydro energy in combating climate change.
Student Participation and Vote of Thanks
Students from Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Portmore, Shimla, performed a skit on environmental conservation, which was highly appreciated.
In his vote of thanks, Dr. Suresh C. Atri extended best wishes to scientists, innovators, and students, emphasizing that science plays a crucial role in national progress and technological advancement.
