Himachal to Introduce RFID Smart Discount Cards for Bus Travel

Himachal Pradesh is set to become the first state in North India to introduce RFID Smart Discount Cards for bus travelers. Starting as a pilot project in Shimla, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) will provide these cards, replacing the current discount cards. Users can tap the RFID card on an e-ticketing machine to get tickets with applicable discounts.
Approximately 80,000 passengers, including students, employees, and cardholders of Yellow, Green, and Samman cards, will benefit. Online card issuance via the HRTC website is also proposed. The initiative is part of HRTC’s modernization efforts, with formal launch preparations underway.
