Shimla: Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh has warned that PWD officers preparing faulty Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) will be chargesheeted. He stressed that road construction in Himachal must be environment-friendly and done in smaller breakups involving multiple contractors to ensure timely completion. Singh expressed concern over religious sites being turned into tourism hubs through ropeways, saying crowd control and waste management at places like Manimahesh were urgent issues.
Currently, 1,250 roads are blocked due to heavy rains, and efforts are underway to restore them. Singh also said illegal dumping will not be tolerated, and in four-lane projects, hill cutting and tree felling will be minimized. He urged the Centre to declare the recent disaster in Himachal a national calamity, ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Dharamshala and Chamba on September 9.
On another note, he announced that the statue of former CM Virbhadra Singh will now be unveiled in October, as the state is still reeling from disaster losses.
