Himachal Pradesh Cabinet Announces Key Developments Across State
2 min readIn a recent session chaired by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Himachal Pradesh State Cabinet unveiled a series of significant decisions aimed at bolstering infrastructure, education, healthcare, social welfare, and governance across the region.
Infrastructure and Development Initiatives
Among the prominent decisions, the Cabinet approved the expansion plans for Kangra airport, clearing the way for land acquisition and compensation to affected families. Additionally, it endorsed the construction of a Bulk Drug Park in Haroli, Una district, advancing the project with the initiation of tender processes.
In a move to safeguard Shimla’s environmental landscape, the Cabinet expanded Green Areas to include Retreat, Mashobra, Band Tukda Andri, Shiv Mandi Andri, Tal and Giri, D.P.F. Khalini, B.C.S. Mist Chamber, and Parimahal under its purview, reinforcing efforts towards sustainable urban planning.
Education and Social Welfare
Addressing educational needs, the Cabinet created 486 posts for Lecturer Physical Education and 157 supernumerary Principal School Cadre positions. Furthermore, it sanctioned 245 new roles for Special Educators, reflecting a commitment to inclusive education practices across the state.
Healthcare and Public Services
In healthcare, the Cabinet greenlit the establishment of a Department of Cardiology at Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College in Hamirpur, appointing essential medical staff to ensure operational readiness. It also enhanced emoluments for employees at Aryabhatta Geo-Informatics and Space Application Centre, underscoring support for scientific research and technological advancements.
Policy Reforms and Governance
The Cabinet introduced progressive policies, including child care leave for female government servants, providing up to 730 days of leave for those caring for children with disabilities. It also launched the ‘Himachal Pradesh State Award for School Teachers Scheme, 2024’ to recognize exceptional contributions to education.
Transportation and Energy
In transport, amendments were made to the H.P. Motor Vehicles Rules, 1999, mandating the purchase of Bureau of Indian Standards-certified protective headgears for registering two-wheelers. The Cabinet also sanctioned a ropeway project from taxi parking to Baba Balak Nath Temple in Deothsidh, Hamirpur, enhancing accessibility for pilgrims.
Healthcare Facilities
Investments in healthcare infrastructure included the procurement of PET scan machines for IGMC Shimla and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, as well as a Spect Scan Machine for IGMC Shimla, aimed at improving diagnostic capabilities and patient care.
Energy and Subsidy Reforms
The Cabinet rationalized subsidies under the Zero Electricity Bill scheme, limiting benefits to one meter per family and linking electricity connections with Aadhar-seeded Ration Cards. Notably, subsidies were abolished for various government officials, contractors, and taxpayers.
Regional Connectivity
Continuing its commitment to regional connectivity, the Cabinet endorsed the continued operation of flights between Shimla and Dharamshala, ensuring seamless transportation options for residents and visitors alike.
