High Court Mandates Comprehensive Waste Management Overhaul in Himachal

Shimla: The High Court has issued extensive directions to the Himachal Pradesh government to address waste management issues and promote sustainable practices. Key directives include forming a Special Task Force (STF) involving various stakeholders for cleaning hill-side streams and hotspots, enhancing the Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) awareness, and conducting waste segregation training programs. The court emphasized the development of sustainable ecosystems along trekking routes and mandated the State Government to implement a fully functional plastic buyback policy. Monitoring legacy waste treatment, amending the Municipal Corporation Act, and establishing a Municipal Waste Management Corporation were also highlighted. Furthermore, the court stressed the importance of maintaining a robust complaint mechanism, ensuring accountability of officials, and conducting an audit of green tax collections.
