Heavy Rainfall Causes Disruption in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, September 15: Himachal Pradesh experienced mixed weather on Friday. Several areas in Kangra, Kullu, Solan, and Sirmaur witnessed heavy rainfall. Due to this, a temporary bridge constructed on the Bald Khad in Badhdi got washed away in increased flow, causing road blockages and affecting communication. This bridge has been washed away for the second time. It has led to traffic jams on the Badhdi-Barotiwala road. People are taking several hours to reach Badhdi and leave from there. The Meteorological Center in Shimla has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall on Saturday.

The weather department has predicted rainfall in some parts of the state until September 21. In Kullu, it rained after almost a month. The rain, accompanied by thunder, caused damage to maize and kidney bean crops in the Sainj Valley. Residents in the region have breathed a sigh of relief from the heat and humidity. Light snowfall has also occurred in places like Rohtang, Baralacha, Kunzum Pass, and Shinku La.

In Sirmaur district, heavy rainfall occurred from Wednesday night to Friday morning, causing traffic disruption on nine roads. Landslides at multiple locations have resulted in significant damage to the public works department. By late evening, the department had restored traffic on almost all roads. Additionally, 287 distribution transformers of the electricity board were also out of service.

In Nahan, 202 areas and Paonta Sahib 85 areas faced power outage issues due to transformer failures. After strenuous efforts, the board employees managed to restore the supply by Friday evening. Kangra district witnessed a heavy downpour on Friday afternoon. In the upper Lambagaon market area of Jay Singhpur sub-division, a person was injured when a tree fell on a car due to strong winds.
