Shimla: A delegation representing the Haati community, led by Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, met Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah at the Lok Sabha office. The delegation expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Haati community through a constitutional amendment.
Despite the law being enacted over a year ago, the delegation informed the Home Minister that the state government has not implemented it, resulting in no benefits being received by the community. The delegation accused the Congress-led Sukhu government of obstructing the implementation of the law at every step since coming to power, preventing the Haati community from reaping the benefits of the legislation passed by Parliament.
The delegation urged the Home Minister to ensure the prompt implementation of the law granting ST status to the Haati community. Alongside Jairam Thakur, the delegation included former MLA Baldev Tomar, Professor Amichand, Kundan Singh, Ran Singh, and Atar Singh Negi.
