GST Reforms: India’s Biggest Economic Reform Since Independence, Says Rajeev Bindal

2 min read

Shimla, September 27 – Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Dr. Rajeev Bindal on Friday termed the Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms as the “biggest reform since India’s Independence,” claiming that the changes will directly benefit the common man by putting ₹2.05 lakh crore annually back into people’s pockets.

Dr. Bindal was addressing the GST Thanks Giving Conference organized in the Shimla Assembly constituency. The event was attended by candidate Sanjay Sood, BJP state office-bearers including General Secretary Payal, Secretary Sanjay Thakur, Kamal Sood, Karn Nanda, Keshav Chauhan, Rajeev Pandit, Sanjeev Pinku, Gagan Lakhanpal, Sanjeev Deshta, Gurmeet Singh, Rama Thakur, and Sudeep Mahajan.

Highlighting the impact of GST reforms, Bindal said that the 12% tax slab earlier covered more than 400 items, out of which 90% of goods have now been brought under the 5% slab, while 10% fall in the zero-tax category. He added that even small cars have become more affordable, making the reforms highly beneficial for the common man.

He further stated that GST reforms will not only strengthen the country’s economy but also streamline business practices across India. “Modi Magic works in every crisis. Even during COVID-19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi provided a relief package of ₹10 lakh crore, making India the fastest recovering economy in the world,” Bindal said.

Drawing a contrast with Congress, Bindal remarked that while the opposition had demanded an income tax rebate up to ₹7 lakh, PM Modi raised it to ₹12.5 lakh. He accused Congress of misleading youth, women, traders, and farmers, adding that the party promoted corruption through transport barriers where “illegal collections” were rampant.

Bindal alleged that under the present Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, over one lakh jobs have disappeared, while favoritism continues in appointments. He credited Modi with ending systemic corruption and called GST reforms a landmark step in India’s economic transformation.
