Governor took stock of damage on NH-05 near Chakki Mor in Solan

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today inspected the damage caused due to a massive landslide to National Highway (NH)-05 near Chakki Mor in Solan district. He issued necessary directions to the district administration and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the NH keeping in view the apple season and the transportation of the produce to the markets situated out of the State. The NH-05 was important for essential daily supplies and it is the shortest route for the tourists to visit Shimla and other places beyond, he added.
Shukla said that due to natural calamity, huge damage has been caused at many places in Himachal due to landslides and cloudbursts affecting normal life immensely.
Deputy Commissioner, Manmohan Sharma informed that so far the estimated loss due to unprecedented rains in Solan district was around Rs. 526 crore. He detailed about the relief being distributed to the affected on the instructions of the state government besides other measures to restore the roads to bring life back to normal.
The Project Director of NHAI, A.K. Dahiya detailed about the damage caused to NH-05 due to landslides. He said that it would take 30 to 45 days to completely repair the NH near Chakki Mor and the measures being adopted by the NHAI to maintain the smooth functioning of NH-05 and the work plan so as to prevent such damage in future.
