In a significant development aimed at promoting tourism and adventure sports, a joint team from the Pong Dam (Govind Sagar) area conducted an inspection from Luhnu Ghat to Mandi Bharadi Bridge. The purpose of this inspection was to assess the feasibility of operating cruises, motorboats, high-speed boats, and Shikara rides at Govind Sagar Lake.

The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department has recently granted approval for these activities under the banner of Bilaspur Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). After collaboration with the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the tourism department will proceed with implementing these recreational activities.

The joint team meticulously examined the technical aspects and logistics required to facilitate these activities at the lake. The team included Mr. PC Azad, Deputy Director, Atal Bihari Mountaineering Institute, Manali, Mr. Manoj Kumar, Assistant Director, Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department, Mr. Praveen Kumar, Chief Medical Officer, Bilaspur, Mr. KK Ranaut, Assistant Engineer, BBMB, Mr. Manoj Kumar, Assistant Engineer, BBMB, Mr. Rajendra Kumar, Deputy Tehsildar, and Mr. Jamuna Thakur, Water Sports Trainer.

The BBMB will now prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) in collaboration with the tourism department. The DPR will outline the specific activities and their operational boundaries within the lake area. This report will also guarantee that the activities do not cause any harm to the lake or its surroundings.

The tourism department has already requested the government to allocate the necessary budget for these initiatives. The upcoming recreational activities will not only generate employment opportunities for the youth of Bilaspur but also boost religious and tourist spots around the lake.

Various departments worked collectively to conduct a thorough technical inspection of Govind Sagar Lake. The BBMB will now prepare a DPR and seek approval, following which these activities will commence. – Ritesh Patial, Assistant Tourism Officer
