Fire Breaks Out in Temporary Camps of Deities During International Dussehra Festival

Kullu, October 28: An unfortunate incident occurred during the “International Dussehra Festival” in Himachal Pradesh as a midnight fire engulfed the temporary camps of deities. The raging flames have severely affected the festival’s grandeur, where revered gods and goddesses were enshrined. The fire broke out suddenly, leading to chaos. Approximately 12-13 tents housing the deities were consumed by the flames. According to the authorities, the deities’ chariots were safely removed before the fire.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. There are reports of tents belonging to other deities being burned as well. Additionally, the silver and wooden ornaments of the deities, offerings, drums, trumpets, masks, and other items turned to ashes. A vehicle was also damaged in the incident. Devotees and police personnel worked tirelessly to remove the deities’ chariots from the tents, saving them from the fire.
Furthermore, various other items were destroyed by the fire. It is reported that while trying to save the deities, two to three individuals also suffered injuries. Some police officers were injured while extinguishing the fire, and one person with injuries was admitted to the hospital. Moreover, around four shops in the shoe market and plastic utensils market were also consumed by the fire.
The incident is currently under investigation, with authorities and the police examining the possible causes of the fire. Although there were injuries, fortunately, there have been no reported fatalities. District Magistrate Kullu, Ashutosh Garg, and Superintendent of Police Kullu, Sakshi Verma, arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The fire caused significant damage, which the authorities are addressing.
