Father Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison for Sexual Assault on Minor Daughter

In Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh, the court of Sessions Judge Kanwar Chirag Bhanu Singh has sentenced the guilty father to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case of sexual assault against a minor. Additionally, a fine of Rs. 50,000 and compensation of Rs. 3 lakh to the victim have also been ordered. The fine amount is also to be paid to the victim.

District Judge Chandrashekhar Bhatia stated that the 13-year-old victim had lodged a complaint on August 15, 2020, stating that her father, Salim Hussain, who worked in Bilaspur, had an argument with her mother in the morning at 10 am and left home.

When she was alone in the quarters at 11 am, her father came there and assaulted her, threatening to kill her if she told anyone. Both the victim and the accused underwent medical examinations. After the investigation, the case was presented in court. The prosecution presented 26 witnesses, while the accused did not present any witnesses in his defense. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court sentenced the accused to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and ordered him to pay the fine and compensation.
