2 min readHamirpur, November 18: The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, initiated to compensate for losses incurred by crops due to natural disasters such as droughts, floods, and excessive rainfall, is now open for the Rabi season 2023-24. Under this scheme, wheat crops in all tehsils and sub-tehsils of Hamirpur district are eligible for coverage. Farmers in the region have until December 15 to insure their crops.
Suresh Dhiman, the Deputy Director of the Agriculture Department, highlighted that the government’s notification regarding this scheme is available on the department’s website, hpagriculture.com. The primary objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to affected farmers and ensure the stability of their income, allowing them to continue their agricultural activities effectively.
All wheat-growing farmers, including tenants and sharecroppers, in the designated tehsils and sub-tehsils can avail themselves of crop insurance under the scheme. Financial institutions will automatically insure all eligible debtor farmers. If any debtor farmer chooses not to avail the benefits of the scheme, they can submit a declaration to the relevant bank branch.
Non-debtor eligible farmers can insure their crops by providing their photo identity card, Aadhar card, and land documents to the insurance company’s office, nearest Common Service Centre, bank, or through online methods.
For any guidance or assistance, farmers can contact the officials of the Agriculture Department. Suresh Dhiman further informed that Kshema General Insurance Limited has been designated for the Rabi season 2023-24 in Hamirpur district. The premium for wheat crop insurance is Rs. 900 per hectare, equivalent to Rs. 36 per canal. The insured amount will be Rs. 60,000 per hectare.
