Farmers get tips on Spice crop production

The Department of Seed Science and Technology of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni organized a one-day farmers training camp cum Kisan Mela at Gram Panchayat Punnardhar (Sangrah), District Sirmour. The topic of the training camp was the promotion and cultivation of spice crops in Himachal Pradesh under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.

The training camp was attended by 75 farmers including women and youth of the panchayat. The farmers were provided with seed kit, literature and information in the form of lectures on various aspects of production and protection technology of spice crops including ginger, turmeric, garlic, coriander, fenugreek, etc.

Dr. Narender Bharat, Professor and Head, Department of Seed Science and Technology elaborated on the importance of spice crops and advised farmers to adopt natural farming practices in the cultivation of spice crops. Dr Rohit Verma, Assistant Professor, Department of Seed Science and Technology urged farmers to adopt scientific principles in the cultivation of spice crops so that farmers can minimize their input cost and get maximum earnings through the cultivation of spice crops. Sucheta Devi, Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Punnardhar thanked the entire team of the University for educating the farmers about the production and protection of spices.
