Exhibition-cum- Sale on Geographical Indications of Himachal Pradesh by HIMCOSTE
2 min readA Geographical Indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. Registration provides legal protection to Geographical Indications which in turn boost exports. It promotes economic prosperity of producers of goods produced in a geographical territory. HIMCOSTE has registered Kullu Shawl, Kangra Tea, Chamba Rumal, Kinnauri Shawl Kangra Painting, Himachali Kala Zeera and Himachali Chulli Oil under Geographical Indications Act, 1999. Whereas, Chamba Chappal, Lahaul Socks & Gloves are in final process of registration at GI Registry Office, Chennai.
For the promotion of the GI products the HIMCOSTE is organizing an Exhibition-cum-Sale of GI products Kullu Shawl, Kangra Tea, Chamba Rumal, Kinnauri Shawl, Kangra Painting, Himachali Kala Zeera and Himachali Chulli Oil along with potential GIs of HP such as Chamba Chappal, Lahaul Socks & Gloves, Spiti Seabuckthorn, Pangi ki Thangoli (Hazelnut), Chamba Metal Crafts, Chilgoza w.e.f 25th December 2021 to 1st January, 2022 at Indira Gandhi State Sports Complex (IGSSC), The Mall, Shimla.
The GI registration for a product is an assurance of genuineness, originality and uniqueness, endowed by virtue of origin of that particular product in specific agro climatic and geographical conditions, for which the consumers/customers are looking for.
Exhibitors are the Authorized Users, registered by Govt. of India, of the above mentioned products from across the state. The tourists, customers and local residents of the city have the unique opportunity to have these valuable traditional products available to them at a single shop at Indira Gandhi State Sports Complex (IGSSC) till 1st January, 2022.
