Former CM accuses Govt of sabotaging rural economy, delaying teacher recruitment

Shimla, August 8, 2025:
Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur lashed out at the Himachal Pradesh government over its failure to restore normalcy in disaster-hit areas even after more than a month since the calamity. In a strongly worded press statement issued from Shimla, Thakur said that major roads and link roads remain unrepaired, affecting the transportation of perishable horticultural and agricultural produce to markets.

He alleged that residents have had to rely on their own limited resources to clear roads, which is neither sustainable nor safe. “People are forced to take dangerous detours due to the government’s inaction, despite repeated appeals,” said Thakur, calling it a glaring example of government insensitivity and inefficiency.

He stressed that the economy of the disaster-affected regions is crumbling, especially for floriculturists and orchardists, who are now discarding ruined produce as it fails to reach the market in time. “The crops that survived nature’s wrath are now being destroyed by the government’s negligence,” he added.

On another note, Thakur accused the state government of deliberately delaying the appointment of art teachers. He said that during the previous BJP government, 314 posts were sanctioned under Post Code 980, budgeted for, and an exam was held in 2022. However, the results were stalled for over two and a half years by the current Congress regime. “This is an act of betrayal and injustice to the youth of the state,” said Thakur, demanding a public apology from the Chief Minister.

Ending on a festive note, Jai Ram Thakur extended warm greetings to the people of Himachal Pradesh on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, wishing peace, prosperity, and joy across the state.
