Four Designated Locations Identified for Firecracker Sales in Dharamshala

Dharamshala, November 2: In view of the Diwali festival, the administration has issued guidelines for firecracker sales in Dharamshala subdivision to ensure public safety and protect public property. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Mohit Rattan has issued orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, designating four locations for the sale of firecrackers.

Licensed and authorised vendors will be permitted to sell firecrackers only at the designated sites. The locations are:

  • Police Ground, Dharamshala: For Kacheri Adda, Depot Bazaar, Civil Bazaar and surrounding areas.
  • Open space near the Community Hall, Kotwali Bazaar: For Kotwali Bazaar, Cantt Road, Brij Lal Road, Gurudwara Road, Khaniyara Road, Old Chari Road, Khada Danda Road and adjoining areas.
  • Open space at the vegetable market, Bhagsu Nag Road: For McLeodganj and nearby areas.
  • Dari Mela Ground: For Dari and surrounding areas.

The SDM said firecracker sales would be permitted only between 8 am and 8 pm. Only approved green crackers can be sold and used across the subdivision. The permitted time for bursting crackers will be from 8 pm to 10 pm, while their use will remain prohibited from 10 pm to 8 am.

Vendors operating in rural areas must also ensure that sales take place only at suitable open locations. All vendors must comply with licence conditions, safety standards and other legal provisions. Firecrackers must be stored and displayed safely.

Applicants seeking permission to sell firecrackers must submit their applications to the SDM’s office by November 4, 2026. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Rattan warned that violations of the orders would invite legal action as per the rules.
