DC Directs Officials to Ensure Food Supply During Festive Season

Solan, October 6: Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma directed the Food and Civil Supplies Department to ensure adequate availability and quality of essential food items in the district ahead of the festive season.

Chairing meetings of the District-Level Public Distribution Committee and District-Level Vigilance Committee, Sharma directed officials to intensify inspections of sweets and other food items before the festivals and deploy staff at different locations for quality checks. He also stressed ensuring adequate availability of ration.

Solan district currently has 354 fair price shops, including 211 run by cooperative societies, 133 by individuals, four by Mahila Mandals and six by Gram Panchayats.

From July to September 2026, around 5,818 quintals of sugar, 33,358 quintals of rice, 52,067 quintals of wheat flour, 610 quintals of pulses, 1,494 quintals of salt and 6,01,261 litres of edible oil were distributed through fair price shops.

During the period, 1,711 inspections were conducted and 53 food samples were collected. The district has 20 LPG agencies serving 2,05,892 registered consumers. The DC directed agencies to issue route charts periodically and officials to conduct regular checks on cylinder weights.

Sharma also directed regular inspection of ration supplied for the Mid-Day Meal scheme. Applications received for opening fair price shops at various locations were also discussed.
