Crafting Emotions through Words: Sitaram Sharma

2 min read

The timeless assertion in poetry encapsulates its essence – a discipline not bound by wisdom alone, but distinguished by its capacity to beautifully articulate the deepest emotions. A poet is not necessarily a sage or a problem-solver; rather, a poet is an artisan of language who encapsulates the human experience with vivid imagery and profound insights, often serving as a chronicler or a recorder of an era’s sentiments. Rightly shared by Sitaram Sharma as he conversed with Somya Shukla during the weekly episode of व्यक्तित्व – बातचीत का कारवां, held at Brews & Books Café, Shimla.

Poets are not mandated to possess wisdom or an extraordinary intellect. Rather, they are individuals with an innate sensitivity to the world around them, allowing them to delve into their own emotions and those of others. Poetry represents the language of the heart and soul, a realm where emotions, whether jubilant or melancholic, find their voice. The poet’s true gift is their ability to access these emotions and express them through words.

Poetry isn’t solely about conveying emotion but also meticulously building a narrative. Poets carefully calculate the impact of words, metaphors, and rhythms on the reader’s emotions, but they do not divulge in offering solutions. Poets do not set out to present solutions to life’s intricate questions, rather their role isn’t to prescribe, but to depict. They offer a reflection of the human condition, mirroring its beauty, pain, and contradictions. Poems don’t resolve problems; they delve into them, encouraging readers to ponder and empathize, to feel and contemplate.
