CPIM Calls for Mass Participation in INDIA Block Rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1
Shimla: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Himachal Pradesh has appealed to people across the state to participate in the INDIA Block’s rally at Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi, on November 1, to safeguard the Constitution and democratic rights. Hundreds of CPI(M) workers from Himachal Pradesh are expected to attend the rally.
The party has accused the BJP-led Central Government and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of undermining democratic institutions through alleged large-scale deletion of voters’ names. According to the party, over 13.5 crore voters have been deprived of their constitutional right to vote through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
In a press statement, CPI(M) alleged that protests against voter deletions are being suppressed through the use of police and paramilitary forces, registration of false cases and detention of activists. The party said that workers, farmers, students, youth, women, civil society organisations and intellectuals are collectively raising their voices against these alleged violations of democratic rights.
CPI(M) demanded the dismissal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and legal action against him, cancellation of the SIR exercise and restoration of deleted voter names. It also called for safeguarding the autonomy of the Election Commission, amending the law governing the appointment of Election Commissioners and implementing comprehensive electoral reforms.
