Palampur, April 29: Tension gripped the campus of Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University ahead of its 17th convocation, as students staged a protest during the rehearsal and refused to accept degrees from the acting Vice-Chancellor.

According to reports, students were initially informed that Droupadi Murmu would attend as Chief Guest. However, a later announcement confirmed that the President, Governor, and Chief Minister would not be present, and degrees would instead be conferred by the acting VC. This led to strong opposition from students, who termed the decision disrespectful and raised slogans against the administration.

Students also alleged mismanagement in arrangements related to accommodation, food, and seating during the rehearsal, particularly affecting those who had travelled from distant areas. They warned of boycotting the convocation scheduled for April 30 if their concerns are not addressed.

The situation remains tense, with authorities attempting to engage with students amid ongoing uncertainty.
