Congress Insulted Icons, Modi Honoured Them: Jairam

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition *Jairam Thakur* addressed the *Baba Saheb Samman Abhiyan* in Sirmaur, launching a scathing attack on the Congress party. He said that after India’s independence, the country faced two major challenges: the integration of over 500 princely states and the drafting of an ideal Constitution. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar were entrusted with these responsibilities against the wishes of Prime Minister Nehru.
Jairam Thakur alleged that Nehru never liked Baba Saheb and always attempted to sideline him. Even after his death, proper respect was not given to Baba Saheb. True honour came only when a BJP-supported government was formed — with Baba Saheb being awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1990, and under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the establishment of the ‘Panch Teerth’ to pay tribute to his legacy.
Speaking about Sardar Patel, Thakur said that Modi honoured him by constructing the *Statue of Unity*, the tallest statue in the world. He criticised the Congress’s ‘Save Constitution’ campaigns, stating, “The Constitution is completely safe under the world’s strongest leader, Narendra Modi; it is the Congress party that is in danger.”
Thakur highlighted Baba Saheb’s life-long struggle for social justice, equality, and against exploitation. He detailed the conspiracies hatched by Congress against Baba Saheb — from attempts to defeat him in the 1952 Lok Sabha by-election by invalidating votes, to fielding cricket player Balu Palwankar against him in the 1937 Bombay Presidency elections.
Prominent leaders present at the event included BJP State President Dr. Rajeev Bindal, MP Suresh Kashyap, MLAs Sukh Ram Chaudhary and Reena Kashyap, State General Secretary Bihari Sharma, party secretaries Daisy Thakur and Munish Chauhan, and District President Dheeraj Gupta, among others.
During the event, Jairam Thakur also condemned the killing of innocent people in Pahalgam by terrorists who targeted them based on their religion. He assured the people of the state that under Modi’s leadership, India would firmly respond to Pakistan, stating that the entire world today stands with India.
