Congress Defending National Herald Scam is Shameful: Jairam

Mandi, April 21, 2025 – Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur slammed the Congress party for defending the alleged corruption in the National Herald case, calling it a clear reflection of their mindset towards corruption. In a strong statement issued from Mandi, he said it is shameful that Congress leaders are touring the country to justify a scam, treating national assets as the private property of the Gandhi family.
Thakur emphasized that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is acting under court directives and that multiple legal attempts by Congress leaders to get relief have failed, indicating the seriousness of the scam. “Giving a ₹90 crore loan to a company with 5,000 shareholders, acquiring ₹2,000 crore worth of property for just ₹50 lakh through a newly formed company, and then waiving off the loan—isn’t that corruption?” he asked.
He criticized Congress’s history of massive scams during the UPA regime and contrasted it with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure, which he said is focused on development and delivering welfare schemes—like 4 crore houses, 12 crore toilets, and free ration for 80 crore people monthly.
On a separate note, Thakur condemned the use of force by police against protesting differently-abled individuals near the Secretariat in Shimla. He urged the government to engage in dialogue and avoid repeated use of force, stressing that their demands deserve serious consideration.
