Shimla, October 9, 2025 — BJP senior leader Trilok Jamwal accused the ruling Congress government in Himachal Pradesh of deliberately delaying Panchayati Raj elections due to its declining popularity. He said a series of government actions indicate clear attempts to postpone local body elections by two years.

Jamwal criticized the state government for first passing a cabinet resolution to defer elections, clashing with the State Election Commission, citing incomplete voter lists, and using the absence of census data as an excuse. He also noted the unnecessary involvement of the Town and Country Planning Department in the electoral process.

He revealed that several Deputy Commissioners have written to the Panchayati Raj Secretary recommending postponement of elections, citing recent disasters and ongoing relief work under MGNREGA. “This move is politically motivated,” he said, alleging that officials are under pressure following the additional charge given to the Chief Secretary.

Jamwal asserted that the Congress fears defeat if elections are held on time, as public sentiment is against them. “The government’s excuses won’t work for long. Whether the elections happen now or later, Congress will face a crushing defeat,” he added.
