Clarification Regarding Misleading Social Media Content

It has come to the notice of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla that a video containing allegations relating to an alleged ragging incident has been circulated on social media by a student of the University.

In this regard, it is clarified that a complaint alleging ragging by Mr. Nikhil Prakash and others has been received by the University and the matter is presently under consideration before the competent authorities in accordance with the provisions of the University’s Anti-Ragging Regulations and applicable rules. The inquiry process is currently underway, and no final findings or decision have been arrived at by the University.

It is further submitted that the complainant has independently lodged an FIR at Police Station Arki, and the University, in compliance with its obligations under the Anti-Ragging framework, had also informed the Police Chowki, Dhami, regarding the matter.

Since the inquiry is pending, any attempt to publicly present allegations as established facts is premature and has the potential to prejudice the ongoing proceedings. The circulation of videos, statements and social media content concerning the matter appears to be an attempt to create unnecessary pressure on the University authorities and may adversely affect the conduct of a fair, impartial and independent inquiry.

HPNLU remains committed to ensuring that all complaints are examined strictly in accordance with law, principles of natural justice and the applicable regulations. The University will take appropriate action upon completion of the inquiry and determination of the facts.

The University appeals to all concerned persons to refrain from spreading unverified information or making public statements that may interfere with the due process currently underway.
